Pilar Pascual

I enjoy the art of using paint and in my work I have the intention of taking domestic packages on a journey from the real to the surreal placing them at a different level of reality by deconstructing their function. They refer to other things not always with an obvious meaning so they can be left to the viewers imagination. I also produce digital prints of these where these objects have their own language and reach other dimensions.
I was born in Spain and I haved lived and worked in England for a number of years as a teacher but my ambition has always been training as an artist. When the opportunity came in 1994, I decided I could not let it pass and I was given a place at the Loughborough College of Art and Design where I graduated in 1997 with a BA Hons in painting.

Having to leave work in order to study Fine Art as an mature student was not an easy decision to make but it is the one I will never regret. Part of my way of financing my studies was to work part time as a cashier in a top supermarket and, having to pass different items and packages through the till, I had to look at their different shapes and designs and perhaps that could be the beginning of my fascination for them. Who knows!
